Merzouga lies in the southeast of Morocco, near the Algerian border, next to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes.
M’Hamid El Ghizlane is located further south, at the gateway to the Erg Chigaga dunes—one of the most remote and vast dune systems in Morocco.

Both are part of the Sahara. But the feeling of space and isolation varies.
