We can also arrange airport pick-up and a safe transfer to our Desert Camp Chraika, where your desert adventure begins — complete with excursions, accommodation, and authentic Moroccan cuisine. From arrival to departure, we take care of every detail so you can fully enjoy your journey.

Is traveling to Morocco and the Sahara Desert safe?

Yes. Morocco is a friendly and safe destination for travelers. The government places great emphasis on tourist security, and tourism is one of the country’s most important industries. In popular regions such as Marrakech, the Draa Valley, or M’hamid, safety is a top priority, and the local communities are well accustomed to visitors from around the world. We work only with trusted local drivers and guides, and all our tours take place in calm, familiar regions known personally by the Desert Stories team. Additionally, every trip includes travel insurance and is covered by the guarantee of an EU-registered tour operator.

What currency should I bring to Morocco?

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). It cannot be purchased or exchanged outside Morocco, so it’s best to bring euros or US dollars and exchange them locally — at an exchange office, bank, or hotel. ATMs are available in most cities, including M’hamid, but cash is the preferred payment method, especially in smaller shops or markets. At our Desert Camp Chraika, as in many local restaurants and stores, you can pay in cash – either in euros or dirhams.

When is the best time to visit the Sahara Desert?

The best time to visit the Sahara is from October to April, when days are pleasantly warm and nights are cool — perfect for stargazing. During the summer months (June to August), temperatures can exceed 40°C, so we do not organize desert tours during that period for the comfort and safety of our guests.

How to get to M’hamid?

The most popular routes include transfers from Marrakech, Agadir, and Ouarzazate.
We can arrange private transportation by taxi or minibus, or assist with booking a bus ticket. Timetables are available at ctm.ma and Bookaway.
If you’re traveling by rental car, a picturesque route through the Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley leads to M’hamid — one of Morocco’s most scenic and well-maintained roads. Along the way, you can stop at Aït Ben Haddou, Zagora, or charming Berber villages.

Can I safely park my car during the desert trip?

Yes, you can leave your car safely and free of charge at our Desert Camp Chraika.

Is there electricity and internet access in the desert?

It depends on where you stay. At our Desert Camp Chraika and other fixed camps (e.g. near Erg Chigaga), electricity comes from solar panels, allowing you to charge your phone, camera, or power bank. Wi-Fi is available in the common area, though with limited speed — part of the charm of desert life, where time slows down and silence takes over. During trekking tours with wild camping, there’s no access to electricity or the internet. We recommend charging devices beforehand, bringing a flashlight and simply embracing the digital detox — a perfect way to experience the desert in its purest form.

What are the living conditions at Desert Camp Chraika?

Desert Camp Chraika is an intimate, family-run place nestled among the dunes near M’hamid. It combines the simplicity of desert life with comfort and attention to detail. Guests stay in clay lodges with comfortable beds, clean linens, and access to bathrooms with hot water. The camp follows sustainable tourism principles – powered by solar energy and supplied with water from a private well. Wi-Fi is available in shared spaces, and bottled drinking water is provided. We serve fresh, local meals every day, and evenings are spent by the fire, sipping tea and enjoying traditional music. The atmosphere is peaceful and family-like – perfect for true relaxation.

What should I pack for a desert trip?

Pack light, breathable clothing that covers your body, a warm layer for cooler nights, comfortable shoes and sandals, and a head covering (a traditional 4-meter cotton turban, also available for purchase at our camp). Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a flashlight, and a reusable water bottle.

Can I come with children?

Absolutely! We offer family-friendly programs and gentle trekking routes. Children love the vast open space, campfires, friendly nomads, and sleeping under the starry desert sky — a magical experience for the whole family.

Can I pay by bank transfer or credit card?

Yes. Payments can be made securely via bank transfer to our Polish business account or by credit card through a Stripe payment link. We also issue invoices compliant with EU regulations.

Do I need vaccinations before traveling to Morocco?

No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter Morocco. The country is considered safe and hygienic, with good access to healthcare in larger cities. For extra peace of mind, following WHO and Polish Sanepid recommendations, you may consider optional vaccines such as Hepatitis A, tetanus and diphtheria, or typhoid fever, especially for longer or off-the-beaten-path stays.
